About Turrialba
Turrialba is one of the great centers of whitewater rafting and kayaking in the world. Since rafting is possible 365 days a year, it has long been the winter training grounds for many European Olympic kayak teams. At an elevation of 2,118 feet above sea level, Turrialba is in a valley surrounded by coffee, sugar cane, and macadamia farms in the shadow of a dormant volcano. It is located about an hour and a half east of San Jose, the nations' capital. Turrialba was the host of the 1996 Juegos Nacionales.
Turrialba is located in one of the last great tropical rain forests, on the Reventazon river. You will be astounded by the varieties of native birds and plants, and hear sounds that are unlike anything you imagine. Orchid lovers will be in heaven; you will see many varities, including our own Gueria de turrialba. Costa Rica has an extensive national park system, and is a world leader in the preservation of the rain forest and national habitats.
